After the renaissance
- rose spearman
After The Renaissance holds a story about Rose Spearman's personal family history. Her German Jewish grandmother fell in love with her grandfather, an Afro-American man. An illicit love affair that crossed multiple racial and social boundaries in New York/Harlem, against the background of Jazz as a rising art form.
Rose took the known ingredients out of her cupboard: her passion for bluesy, soulful, melancholic yet uplifting tones. But this time she has added a more programmed and electronic sound, some ‘New Industrial Soul’, to the recipe.
More about
this production
Rose Spearman's anecdote about her ancestors built the groundwork for this video. Every time the girl and boy want to reach each other, the blues starts both internally and externally. It displays the desire for connection in a forbidden world.
